I’m no health nut, but I do enjoy fresh fruit, especially strawberries. However, I don’t have much of a green thumb and I’m never too sure when strawberries are in season when I’m shopping in the supermarket. So, of course, when I spotted the Hanging Strawberry Garden I knew it would be worth the purchase.
Growing fresh strawberries seemed like a pipe dream, especially considering how brutal the winter can get here, but I wanted to at least give it a try. I figured the best outcome would be that I would get fresh strawberries anytime I wanted them. The worst outcome would be that I had tried something new, so I couldn’t see a downside.
When my Hanging Strawberry Garden arrived, I was super excited — go ahead and call me a geek. It comes with an 8 1/2 inch basket and the strawberry plant, with instructions that were pretty easy to understand. As you can see by the picture, after just a few weeks I had red ripe strawberries to put on cereal, or in a fruit salad. Or, you could always do what my boyfriend, Sean, does and put the strawberries on waffles with some whipped cream (his favorite way to eat fruit).
For me, the best part about the Hanging Strawberry Garden is that it works both indoors and outdoors, so I can hang it outside in the summer - this way I seem like a real gardener. And when the weather gets colder than is safe for my strawberry plant, I can bring it inside and keep all my fresh strawberries safe from the freezing temperatures (and it’s easy access if I want to just grab a red ripe strawberry to pop in my mouth for a snack).
My only real complaint with it was the hanger it comes with. I found it to be a little flimsy, and didn’t trust it to hold the plant for too long without possibly breaking. I just replaced it with a bit of twine Sean had lying around the house for another of his projects and it worked just fine.
Buy It Or Not?
Absolutely buy the Hanging Strawberry Garden! It takes such little time and effort and the benefit is definitely worth the purchase.
